The Cowboy is the hired hand that protects the ranch, moves the herds and does anything else needed to keep a ranch running. Cowboys are independent; love the outdoors and the challenge of wrangling a herd of cattle to get them to market. They are usually good with a gun, with roping, tracking and even have a bit of medical training. Cowboys can be restless feeling the call of the open range, as a result they do not tend to stay in anyone place to long.
Strong Senses (Ex): At 1st level, a cowboy’s life among the wild has sharpened his senses. He gains low-light vision and a +1 bonus on Perception checks. If he already has low-light vision, he gains a +2 bonus on Perception checks instead. This bonus increases by +1 for every four levels after 1st (to a maximum of +6 at 20th level, or +7 if the character did not gain low-light vision from this ability). This ability replaces the ranger’s first favored enemy ability.
Firearm Style: At 2nd level, a cowboy gains the Amateur Gunslinger feat, and can use any 1st-level gunslinger deed (page 10). At every four levels thereafter, the cowboy can take a grit feat or select a gunslinger deed of his level or lower, cowboy’s choice. This ability replaces combat feat style.
Life in the Saddle: The cowboy spends most of his time in the saddle. He forms an especially close bond with his horse. At 4th level the cowboy’s horse becomes his animal companion. This works like the ranger’s Hunter’s Bond class feature and his horse gains low light vision as well. Additionally the cowboy gets a bonus to ride checks equal to 1/2 is ranger level.
